Noah's Ark

They say God is always there and forever loving His children. So if He loves us, why did he unleashed the flood that wiped out the world of sin for 3 days and 3 nights?

Put it this way:

A Mother always love her children, even though they made mistakes and committed sins against her, she still loves them. But her punishments were for the good of them, and instead of killing them and instantly remove the problem, she takes great pains to explain to them why and where they were wrong, hoping that they would understand the sins they committed.

Now, the question:

Why didn't God send His messengers, the angels down to Earth, to painstakingly tutor His own children of the sins they have committed against God?

Author's note: I am very curious to know why the Almighty does such acts, as claimed in the Bible. Just wanna know the stories behind it. No offense meant. I didn't read finish the Bible, only the Revelations sections, which I felt the most interesting. =)
